RECALIBRATE
simple simple and small
Hi my friends!
If you are looking for just the little bit of juice for your body, mind, spirit in a laid back summer kind of way.. you may love ALIGN. Short, consistent practices that you can do live or by recording. READ more below. We start TUESDAY.
This is the second in my series of RE words…
RECALIBRATE
To “recalibrate” means to make small, intentional adjustments to a measuring device, a plan, or a mindset to restore accuracy, balance, or alignment.
I love this so much because many of you know how much I value micromovements.Like, I really value it, and believe in its ability to do large things for us. For instance, when my fascia is tight, holding, gripped somewhere and I lay on the ground and use the surface of the floor as a partner with the micromovements of my body, something begins to open, to stretch and expand. I feel that with the fascia feeling supported by something so much larger; the floor, but really the ground and the earth, the tightness that has locked my organs, and skeleton can relax. Micro movements give way to macro movements, with a quality of opening from the inside out, or growing organically into and through shape, strength, momentum. A fullness of expression arises because the inbetween is moving. Expand the space in between.
TRY THIS
Lay or somehow put your body against a surface that can give you feedback. Some examples are: a wood floor, a tree, the dirt, sand, a padded bench. Something you can comfortably relax into, but firm enough to give you something to push into.
Notice your points of contact, is it the back of your head? Your hand, sacrum, upper arm or feet? What is the quality and sensation of that contact?
Imagine and feel how through the point of contact every part of you is being touched, in the interwoven web of fascia, skin, connective tissue, there is no point of isolation, there are no boundaries or lines of state drawn within your body.
Beginning with one of those points of contact- begin to move. This could be a small circle or line, you may feel like a bear scratching against a tree. Move into the surface with the small micromovements of your body, hang out with it being small and notice what you notice.
At some point that movement will end, rest, relax. And then another point of contact will come to your attention, your noticing will shift (if that does not happen organically it is ok to just pick another point.) Start the process again, small micromovements that originate around the point of contact between your body and another surface.
Follow this for as long as you like, put no pressure on yourself to MAKE anything big or more out of this. If something does arise, like you suddenly feel like walking, shaking, moving larger in any way, go for it, and try to stay attuned to the micro movements happening underneath it all, all the time.

INBETWEEN SIGHTS/SITES. An embodiment workshop exploring in-between sight as intuition and non-linear knowing, and the in-between sites within our body, movement, gestures, emotional mind, and stories we carry. Through images and memories of dappled light, light glimmering on bodies of water, and light seen through squinting eyes, we will explore through meditation, movement and writing practices how to cultivate a more aware relationship with ourselves, the multitude of fields we are a part of, and our in between sight and sites.
