kill your darlings
a poem
Greetings everyone! Kill your Darlings, a phrase most commonly used to teach how to clarify focus in the creative process, is thought to have originated with William Faulkner. Needless to say I am not advocating for actually killing anything. Only to invite a deeper level of harvesting what is essential , what is truly alive. I am also curious about what fills in the space, what vibrancy and mystery can come into the cracks when we let the "darlings" go. It feels simple, risky, and joyfully potent, and then, of course, we have to engage the process again, and again. stay in touch my friends, Tracy A POEM Our perfect polished offerings of self we grip in our palm and grow deeply entranced by their shine… Forgetting the rough hand that cups them is so much more alive. pain- hurt- shame- and collected injuried feelings All things become spellbinding in obsessive grip and gaze- Extend your arm and let it fall Kill your darlings before they Kill you remember You are the pulsing force that Bears the fruit You are the continuous current That spills into form. -tracy broyles
In other news you are invited to come and write and move with Janice Lee and myself! August 22nd, 10-3, in person in NW Portland. Janice Lee, btw, is a total superstar, and I am honestly so honored she wanted to do this workshop with me! We are crafting a gentle space to take you on a journey of sensing the space between, in the fascia of the body, in finding a memory or glimmering and shimmering light, in hovering in the potency of pause and breath, in feeling the infinite expression of a simple gesture. We will use movement, meditation, and writing as creative exploration, and and shared reflection as communal connection. LEARN MORE HERE.
